Barry,
The only information on your man on Ancestry is medal roll information which doesn't help too much except that he entered France on 23 Nov 1914 and was awarded
the trio. His service records apparently did not survive the Arnside Street fire in 1940.

Barry

There is an entry for your man on the War Graves Commission's site that does provide some family details, and would provide you with a starting point.

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=906405

From this I did a search of the BDM registers and a Miranda Amelia Vairy, born 1883 (parents Richard & Martha) married James Elliott Mavin in the Jul/Sept Quarter 1904 (Tynemouth, Vol 10b, page 408)
