Enlistment & Birthday

Postby devils own » 17 Jul 2017 15:31

I have a soldier of the 40th who was attested as a boy on the 21 November 1832, then a year later was attested as a private on the 21 November 33. His father was in the same regiment at the time. could their be that the 21 November was his birthday?

There was a set age when the rank of 'boy' became a drummer, bandsman, or a private (the latter in the case of tailors, or shoemakers), so a birthday date is quite likely.
