The IGS Punjab Frontier clasp medal roll shows him serving with 1st Battalion The Buffs when the medal was earned.

Thanks Martin, Sutherland did not serve in the Boer War with his Bn so I wonder why and for how long he was attached to the Buffs?

Ron

From what I can make of the information on the internet, Henry Holmes Sutherland was only attached to the Buffs for the duration of the campaign. He was promoted Captain in 1900 and then Adj. of the 3rd Battalion on 16 April 1901, which would explain why he did not take part in the Boer War. However, he did go on to have a distinguished career with the 42nd during WW1.

You can download some of his service record from the National Archives website for free, WO 76/423 pdfs 268 and 269.
