4th VB Cheshire Regiment Boer War memorial tablets in Stalybridge Central Library cellar where they have been since 1974 when the Drill Hall was pulled down. Less we forget.

Thanks for posting.

This is awful, and good. Good they were not broken up when the Drill Hall was pulled down - I have a postcard of a memorial for the 2 VB Warwickshire Rgt that disappeared when their drill hall was pulled down, could be the only evidence it ever existed.

Do you think these could be put up somewhere on display?

The Stockport branch of the Cheshire Regiment Association is trying to get them out, but due to Health & Safety as they are heavy this is causing a problem, even though they were carried in, it seems they can't be carried out.

Surely if the regimental association put out a shout for volunteers then they'd soon find fellows willing to lend a hand.If ot was local to me id lend a hand. It's good they survived but terrible that they ended up in that dank hole.

Seems like an easy problem to solve if you got in touch with some friendly builders with trolleys and brawn (and brains).

Would love to help, but wrong end of the country - if I can help with anything from here (Sussex) let me know.

What plans does the Association have for them?

There are plenty of willing hands, its just red tape that's stopping the move. They were carried in (unless they built the library around them),but it's a big problem to carry them out. I understand that there is also brass plaques, but again the same problem.
