Black Watch uniforms/ khaki spats

Postby BShajari » 19 Mar 2013 23:15

Greetings all!

I am looking to purchase a Black Watch foreign service doublet from the early 1880's for a Sudan War living history impression. Does anyone know who makes a quality repro of these that's not too expensive?

I'm also looking for khaki spats and the appropriate hose tops to go with my Boer War impression.

Thanks!

Yours respectfully,

Brian

Hello Brian,

If you find a good source for doublets, please let me know. My group represents a Pre Federation Australian volunteer force circa 1888 whose uniform was based on the Gordon Highlanders and we've had difficulty in finding anything 'off the rack', each doublet is sourced locally to the wearers needs, etc and its not a cheap exercise.

The RQM was producing Black Watch doublets, but I believe from posts here that he might be getting out of the business.

Hose tops and gaiters aren't so much of a problem and can be found rather easily and the gaiters are easy enough to dye using traditional methods.

Good luck,

Robert
