I have been looking for a reinactment group to join here (St. John's NL) for ages! There's one in Moncton, NB I think, but the rest are in Ontario. Very few are technologically savvy enough to have websites, I've found, or that's at least the case with the ones which I can't find in Atlantic Canada. There should be a database.
As to why we do it, well: I'm not a reinactor yet per se but I got to dress up for work (Open air museum: King's Landing Historical Settlement). It's so much fun and it makes you really connect with history. It's like ... hockey or soccer, a passion to take extreme pride in when executed properly. I love history and I love the way things used to be done (although I appreciate having modern amenities like toilets and similarly: toilet paper). It was all so much more complex and yet so simple: A veritable paradox.
PS--Anyone who is aware of a reinactment group (OTHER THAN the Royal Newfoundland Regimental Tatoo) in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada should give me contact information ASAP. You have no idea the joy you would bring me.
