Greetings from Oz

Postby Wayne » 16 Dec 2017 01:51

Hi everyone. What an informative site. I am a long (long) time family historian with an extra interest in military forebears and history generally.
I've recently gotten a bit interested in old medals and photographs generally - not family. I've already picked some useful info from reading other's threads, so thanks.
I got the research bug recently when I bought a poor old neglected Kings Boer War Medal, disc only. Turned out that the recipient was also entitled to the DCM! If you have his Queens Medal and DCM please send over, it would be nice to re-unite them. LOL :D. Just in case you're wondering, he is Corporal (Serjeant upon removal to the reserves) Patrick Joseph Smith No 4657 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers, born in the parish of Lavey near Cavan, county Cavan, Ireland in 1870.
I will post on the correct forum a couple of queries. Cheers all.

You have already made a great subject post but nobody greeted you. Aussies get no respect. Actually, we all welcome you. Sometimes new people slip through the cracks.

Greetings, Wayne. We have been talking about the 5th Royal Irish, tangentially, on another thread here. It's possible there 's a photo of them round about the time your man served. Medals not my area but good luck. JF
