Greetings From Western Canada

Postby Joe90 » 30 Aug 2016 05:30

Hi, I'm Doug from Edmonton, Alberta.

I joined the forum in order to reach out to one of your members here, but I have every intention of staying.

My family history on my father's side has a history with the Victorian era British Army, and Canadian militia.

So does my mother's side, but not quite in the same way. Two words in explanation: Red River.

I've got some photos and some artifacts that I'll share in the near future.

Doug,

Welcome to the Forum! Can you expand on your Red River comment?

All the best,

^^

My mother's side were Acadian deportees who eventually found their way up to l'Assomption, PQ, then came out west with the fur trade, settled in the Red River, chased buffalo, took an active part in the Rebellion and wound up relocating to the American side of the Red River country in Minnesota. In the early part of the 20th Century they emigrated to Saskatchewan, then moved to Alberta in the 1930's.
