Hello from Durham

Postby LaBelleEpoque » 13 May 2016 19:48

Hey all, I'm Ellen. :) I'm a history student at the University of St Andrews and I have a love for all things Victorian and antique!

I'm interested in nursing and the development of hospitals, medicine, and surgery within a military context. I like all aspects of 19th century civilian life, culture, and dress. I wish there was more of a women's scene within 19th century reenactment! If there was, I'd be interested in a field hospital display. Looking forward to exploring this forum a little more :)

Thanks!

Hi Ellen,
There are some great resources in Scottish archives. There's also St Bart's nursing archive in London, not online unfortunately.
An Australian doctor trained in Edinburgh, G F Morrison, wrote an 1890s travel account where he visited Mandalay and tantalisingly mentions that there were two St Bart's trained nurses in the military hospital there, one of whom was from Melbourne.
Happy investigating...and finding!
