G W BACON BATTLEFIELD PRINTS ... HELP WANTED

Postby ploughman » 29 Aug 2017 21:07

I am sure many members are familiar with the large attractive Victorian prints published by G W Bacon of the BOER WAR & SUDAN / EGYPT battles. I have a number of them and have seen (but not been able to afford) several others in the series. My question is, does anyone know of a definitive list of them , or failing that can anyone help by letting me know of any others not on my current list of 'known' examples:
TEL EL KEBIR
OMDURMAN 6.30 AM
ABU KLEA
TALANA HILL
ELANDS LAAGTE
BELMONT
MODDER RIVER
PAARDEBERG
SIEGE OF LADYSMITH
LAST BARRIER - BATTLE OF PIETERSHILL
HEROES OF LADYSMITH
BRITISH ENTRY INTO PRETORIA
Much appreciated

I assumed a quick goggle would provide most info - I have the Tel el Kebir one which I bought at a car boot a few months back - deeply regret not buying some when a local hotel closed down and sold off about a dozen including a Rorkes Drift one but they starting prices were too steep for my limited wallet and wall space!

They do come up every so often on saleroom.com and don't make a lot as they do require a fair bit of space - they also are fairly inaccurate so don't attract the purist attention of Caton Woodvilles and Simkins etc - atb Tim

thanks for that .... but are you sure they did a RORKES DRIFT one ? I agree they are inaccurate but they have a certain charm and bravado that to me epitomises the era as it was seen by the Victorian public.

It was certainly in the style of and included the numeral annotations etc - tbh it was a while back now and if it was in amongst a load of Bacon's other ones so I might be wrong - don't know if anyone else has an opinion- atb Tim
