Westley Richards Monkey-Tail capping breech-loading short rifle.
Ex-South Africa and dated 1878, these rifles were popular with Boer forces who used them extensively in the 1881 War against Great Britain (Majuba, Laing's Nek, etc).
Calibre is .483 /.450., to take a paper cartridge and percussion cap.
Wood and metal in lovely un-messed-about-with condition. Wood has beautiful tiger striping. Lock is crisp. All numbers matching. Butt trap works perfectly, and hinge not damaged as is often the case on these rifles. Breech action and piston works perfectly. I have not tried cleaning a century of grease out of the bore but this rifle is NOT being sold for shooting purposes. Does not require a firearms certificate nor any other paperwork to own in the UK. Does not need to be deactivated.
