THE WOLSELEY HELMET IN PICTURES From Omdurman to El Alamein

Postby Peter_Suciu » 28 Oct 2009 18:33

I am pleased to announce that my good friend and colleague Stuart Bates and I will be publishing our second book on the subject of military sun helmets. This book is specifically on the Wolseley pattern helmet, which was first used during the Sudan Campaign.

Win a copy of Suciu's book, The Wolseley Helmet

Postby jagjetta » 18 Oct 2011 16:42

I hope this isn't construed as a shameless plug for Military Trader but we are giving away copies of Peter Suciu's book, The Wolseley Helmet. To register, you will have to go here:

http://www.militarytrader.com/sweepstakes

of course, the ultimate goal is not to be so generous as to give away books, but rather, to grow the list of people interested in military collecting. I just thought I would let you know that (it is always easy to opt out after they send you the first notice of an auction, sale or book offering).

If this is too far outside the parameters of this forum, feel free to delete the post--I sure understand. But, I did want to let folks know that we are giving away some useful books.

Thanks for letting me share the link,

I have seen the Military Trader at magazine stands and it has stuff for trade from all eras but mostly WWII. It is a facinating publication. However, "The Wolseley Helmet" was written by Stuart Bates with Peter Suciu as contributor. Excellent book and I would recommend "Military Sun Helmets Of The World" also. Now THAT book was written by Peter Suciu, with Stuart Bates as contributor.

yikes..you are absolutely right, Ed! Stuart Bates was the author with Peter Suciu. Now I am just blushing....

I will have copies of Sun Helmets on subsequent sweepstake offerings.

You are correct, Military Trader tends to lean toward WWII, though there is a fair amount of WWI coverage as well (I suspect unintentionally led that way because that is where my interests are!)

Over the last few years, have had a lot of coverage of British medals as well. But, it is hard to predict, as most of the articles are reader-written, so whatever stirs them, is what I end up printing (or if I don't have enough to fill an issue, I bang out something on a cool First War collectible!)

Best,
John

Ed is indeed correct in that I wrote the Wolseley book and Peter, my American colleague, contributed :D

We have collaborated on three books now (only two military) and quite a few magazine articles.

Cheers,

Stuart

I see that book reviews have been asked for as a general rule so here are a few for my book.

The first from Military Illustrated.
