Hi all,

I thought that it might be of interest, that when asked about the two different words, the fellow I spoke to on the subject (a member of that ethnicity), confirmed that both referred to the same group of people and that "Pathan" was pronounced "Pah-Tawn" (with a silent "h").

Now, would Westerners have pronounced it that way? Or would they have said "Pa-Than"?..... I don't know.
Cheers,
Rob

Interesting question, Rob. The following link offers an example to the most common pronunciation I have come across in my research:

Yes, that's it Mark... My phonetical writing leaves somewhat to be desired.. :-).... So in western speech it was the same?

I am assuming so, since the British in India would have brought that pronunciation home with them.

All that said, I strongly suspect most readers of my book will pronounce it differently!

It was due out on 21 July, but the publisher has been slightly delayed. I am just waiting for the final proofs, then it should be off to the printers very soon.

Hi Chris

The Sirdar and the Khalifa is all finished and with my publisher, who have already begun work on formatting it etc. It will come back to me for proof reading and creating the index but it should be out sometime in 2017. I will post an update as soon as I am given a publication date.
