William Dunnicliff 2nd Battalion (KRRC)

Postby Russell Woodward » 29 Jan 2014 17:20

I am trying to research a William Dunnicliff and i am getting rather confused

Firstly a William Dunnicliff was in the Crimea with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers - fought at Alma

Then i come across a William Dunnicliff who is mentioned with the 2nd Battalion Kings Royal Rifle Co in China

I am having trouble determining if it was the same person or not

I have looked at the dates and they could follow each other

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Russell

FMP has the service record for the W Dunnicliff who served in the RWF, this shows him as being born in Cork, and enlisting in 1847, remaining in the same Regt. until his discharge in Bombay in 1868. I had hoped that the 1861 worldwide index would have both men, but it only has the man of the same name in the KRRC.

Thank you Martin for your assistance

I have been unable to find any ref to his parent in Cork?

He married in 1862 in Portsmouth to Harriett Elizabeth Little - there first child was born in Cork - Frederick William Dunnicliff born 1867

I note that you have said he was discharged in Bombay in 1868

There next child was born in India - Peshwar, Bengal in 1871 - so he and his wife stayed out
He was back in UK as his additional Children were born in Horsely, Derbyshire - namely Francis Joseph (1874), Louisa Emma (1876) before he re-appears in Australia
