Greetings-

A small question. What is the difference between a personal message marked as 'Sent' and one that remains lurking in the Outbox with no obvious indication (to me, at any rate) of any further action required to raise it to 'Sent' status?

Grateful for all tips.

It means the message has not yet been read by the recipient.

I suspect it is because the recipient has not yet read your email; once read it will appear in the 'sent' box.

Martin and Chris are correct. Quite a useful way of knowing whether the recipient has read your PM or not.
