UK Members | Battle of Waterloo Bank Holiday e-petition

Postby Mark » 07 Jan 2012 19:43

FAO All UK Members

I know this is slightly out of the Victorian period but I know a number of members also have an interest in this...

While we don't normally do politics on the forum I think we can make an exception for this rather harmless one. A new ePetition has been created on the HM Government's web site calling for Monday the 20th June 2015 to be made a bank holiday in recognition of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. As usual a total of 100,000 signatures is required for this to be debated in the House of Commons so if you are interested in an extra day off to get involved in the anniversary in some way now is your chance to have your say by signing the petition.

The petition can be found at: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/26429

If you do sign it please be aware you are emailed a link after entering your details. You must click this link from your email to finally register your signature.

Please spread the word and so we can fully recognise the 200th anniversary of Waterloo.

Battle of Waterloo Bank Holiday e-petition

Postby alan_lockhart » 10 Jan 2012 17:55

Mark,

I wonder if Downing Street will allow a counter-petition to which we Bonapartists can subscribe?

Having said that, another Bank Holiday would be nice, even one on which we can drown our sorrows.

Vive l'Empereur!

Hi Alan

Any bank holiday is nice for a beer or two - whichever side of the battle you sit on

Have signed. Only another 99,905 signatures to go...

We're only asking for it the once - not as a regular fixture. Let's spread the word outside the forum, and just for once be proud of a little bit of our history...

I'll mention it on Twitter and ask my followers to retweet. If any other members have a Twitter/Facebook account etc. and would like to advertise this then please do.
