Mark,

What a great idea! This clearly fills a gap.

All the best,

Fantastic, Mark - thanks for filling a clear gap! No need for competition between the various forums, and as you say, there will always be a huge overlap between the VWF, EWF and WW1 forums, simply due to the nature of the careers of "our" soldiers! But I think we can handle the subtle distinctions in a gentlemanly spirit... :-)

Although I am a poor contributor to this forum, I do visit it almost every day and the new sub-forum will add to my reasons for visiting. The period includes the 1906 Natal Rebellion, two coronations and the end of Colonial Natal, which are all matters that interest me.

Thank you for the addition.

Regards
Brett

Glad you like the new sub-foum guys! It is a fascinating period which seems to be gaining ground in the study of military history. I am quite interested in the Mohmand Expedition of 1908 - although admitedly I don't know a huge amount about it (yet)!

Good news and I am sure this will be well used. Might I suggest that the new date span be added to the title of the forum. It will then make it clear to anyone who visits on a speculative basis.

The Mohmand Campaign of 1908 was one of the many campaigns on the North West Frontier of India. From a continuity point of view, Mark perhaps you could extend the existing category for the North West Frontier to “The North West Frontier of India 1837-1914”, as it better sits here.

There is some information about the 1908 Mohmand Campaign on the FIBIS Fibiwiki page “North West Frontier Campaigns”. You can read online an official account of the Campaign, (or buy it as a reprint)

What a brilliant idea. My Grandfather attended the 1911 Coronation Durbar with his Regiment, The Tenth Royal Hussars, which took a central role, and he took several photos. He also wrote a four page account of the event in the Regimental Gazette, and I am hoping to form a Durbar page on his website, http://www.majorpillinger.com
Should anybody have any information of the role of the Tenth Hussars during the fortnight of the event I should be very pleased to hear of it. Incidentally I have read A Glimpse of Empire by Jessica Douglas-Hume which is a book full of nostalgia and well worth reading.
