Interested in British military medals?

The British Medal Forum (BMF) is an independently run web site which has a large international membership. Here you will be able to make contact with both long standing collectors and those newer to the hobby gaining access to a wealth of information in the many online discussions. While the BMF includes all periods it has a particulary strong section on the Victorian era.

British Medals Web Site

This web site has been created as a free online information resource for collectors, medal recipients, people in possession of family medals or indeed anyone who has an interest in British medals. Most medals featured are, by virtue of their numbers, military awards but the site also covers those awarded to the emergency services, civilians and certain volunteer organizations. There are also a small number of foreign medals listed that have over the years been issued to British recipients and have received official sanction for wear. The period covered by this site ranges from the earliest medals produced in the 1790’s to the present day.

Victorian Medal Dealers

Postby Mark » 09 May 2008 07:09

As with the "British Militaria Dealers Online" sticky thread I have decided to add another listing some of the medal dealers who specialise mainly in (or have large stocks of) British Victorian medals.

Below are several to get started but I will be adding more shortly.

Interesting site! There appears to be little detail on the medals without paying for a sub. Are all the medals listed actually available, as I dont really want to be forking out cash to look at medals that are no longer for sale! :P

In one of these forums, I saw a request for a medal ribbon to go with a certain British medal. There was no real answer given to the request.
Well, I found a most amazing eBay site on American ebay. The site is in England and it is on eBay U.K. also.
His dealer I.D. is peterirelandltd, and he sells repro ribbons (ribands). Not just a couple of styles, but HUNDREDS of ribbons for british medals. Hundreds!

Here is how you find him on eBay:
1-click "My eBay" on upper right top banner
2-then click "messages" left side of screen
3-Go down left side of screen to "contacts" and click on "Find & contact a member"

A new window will open up and you will be told what to do.
Now I know, perhaps, where some replacement ribbons on my Brit medals came from.I hope I never need him, but he is one of my "saved sellers" none the less.

New Medal Auction Site - Zero Commission!

Postby Mark » 26 Sep 2011 19:53

One for the medal collectors amongst us...

Our friends over on the British Medal Forum have launched a new online auction site for British and Commonwealth medals. Unlike the traditional auction houses and eBay this site does not charge any commission whatsoever. All you do is pay a small registration fee to join (currently £3) and then a listing fee starting from £2.95 depending on the items and services required. As many of you who have sold on eBay or at the traditional medal auction sites such as DNW you will already see the potential for MAJOR savings!

The web site can be accessed at: http://www.britishmedalauctions.com/index.php

*Please note the VWF has no direct connection with the auction site and we do not profer from it in anyway. This post is for information purposes only for members who are interested in collecting medals.

Mark,

I just tried to have a look at your site and found that it is for sale!

To return to the point of the thread, when I want to identify medals, I use this site:

(Sorry if it has already been posted up and I missed it)
