He is listed in the ABW website with basically the same information with the source as being the book "In Memoriam by Steve Watt"......

I am sure that you looked in FMP and Ancestry.....

Hello Phil

Not sure abw.com will help.

I think this is a simple mistake. What era is the grave marker - contemporary, immediate post-war or later?

Hello Phil

That is a modern stone with the a contemporary grave marker behind that should have name, unit , rank and date. Would be interesting to see a close up of the original.

The original looks weather worn and this along with an imperfect understanding of whoever commissioned the new stone I suspect is how the error came about.

Hello Meurig
Thanks for reply sorry cant get a good close up of the original grave marker, there is no reference to a T. Edwards 4302, 2nd K.O.S.B., any where to be found, but I might be wrong, all I have is a medal to 4302 T. Edwards, 2nd Shropshire L.I., who died at Middleburg on the 19 October 1902, I find it strange how the dates of death can be different, if it's my man, I know mistakes have been made with grave markers, and also with official documents.
If this soldier buried in the grave is that of a soldier of the King's Own Scottish Borderers then I presume he would be known to the Regiment as a casualty, as at this time I cannot find out anything on him.?
all the best

Hello Phil

I know you've done the research and agree this doesn't make sense - could just be a gross error, wouldn't be the first.

Hello Phil

I know you can get GRO death certificates for WW1, not sure if they are available for pre-1914.

Somewhere I have a photocopied handwritten register of ABW graves in the Transvaal, that may show something. Otherwise Steve Watt in SA would be a good contact.

PM or email me for his email.
