I am sure Mike Snook will be all over this! My instinct says 'yes' to a baggage column of some sort but I did a quick search and came up with the following from Savage and Soldier online;
"The total strength of the Desert Column was 98 officers, 1,509 NCO's and men, 296 natives and interpreters, 8 Egyptians, 2,778 camels, 155 horses, and two mules."
That gives total numbers of 1911 men and 2935 beasts of all sorts. Assuming that no one can ride more than one camel, horse or mule at a time that leaves 1024 beasts available to carry baggage of one kind or another.
I would be interested if anyone has a detailed breakdown of the baggage carried!
