Kitchener's Despatch for the Action at Firket 7th June 1896

Postby Mark » 28 Dec 2015 13:55

While reading his despatch of 30 September 1896, Kitchener makes reference to an earlier despatch he wrote on 9 June detailing the action at Firket on the 7th. However, this does not appear to be available on the London Gazette web site.

Has anyone come across this despatch or know of the whereabouts of a copy?

Hello Mark,

I've looked for the despatch for firket too but without success. Sorry I can't help.

On the subject of Firket though did you notice this group of 5 medals for sale at DNW. For the officer commanding the North Staffs Maxim battery.

The other is a pair that I own to a member of the same Maxim battery

VERY nice! Although I dread to think what the medals will go for!
