Maj. E.A.DeCosson

For all discussions relating to the Egyptian and Sudanese campaigns fought between 1882 and 1898.

Might anyone have a bio. or some background information about Major DeCosson. I expect most everyone has mined "Fighting Fuzzy-Wuzzy," for detail; but, I haven't been able to find anything about the author, himself. His accounts yield surprisingly little autobiography, e.g., his home unit; how he came to be posted to the Suakin expedition; the referenced previous travels in the Sudan ??? I did find reference to an obituary in The Royal Geographical Society publication, Vol. 11, No. 7 (July 1889, pp. 440-1) noting his death "... 5 June [1889] at his residence in Southfield .... author of 'The Hydrography of S.E. Tibet, The Dibong River'."

Does anyone have more?

Thanks.

Hello Annapolis:

Welcome to the Forum:

Not very much I'm afraid, just the following which I've typed on an insert in my copy of his Fuzzy-Wuzzy book. I presume I took the information from an Army List.

Emilius Albert de Cosson
7th Bn KRRC ( 2nd Middlesex Militia )
Lieutenant - 19 June 1871
Captain - 9 Feb 1876
To Reserve - 7 July 1880
Major - 4 October 1885

Cheers,

Mark

Mark: thanks. Well, I'm going to put in my copy as well. I forgot earlier to note that the obituary said he died at age 39. Annapolis
