Can anyone help ?

Postby misterG » 29 Oct 2015 04:13

Hi All
I'm hoping someone here can help me in regard to the Frontier war of 1878-80 , I'm trying to find to which Unit of the 30th N.I. a Sepoy Named Dull Sing served , I believe it's one of these 3 Units ; 30th ( Punjab ) Bengal Native Inf , 30th Madras Nat Inf and last but not least the 30th Bombay Nat Inf or ( Jacob's Rifles ) . Are there anymore 30th Nat Inf units I haven't listed that he may have been a part of ? . Thank you in advance for those who are able to help in any way whatsoever .
Regards

Three 30th Native Infantry regiments are listed as being present in the Second Afghan War - see http://www.garenewing.co.uk/angloafghan ... iments.php

30th Bengal Infantry Punjab
30th Madras Infantry
30th Bombay Infantry Jacob's Rifles (M)

Not much help I am afraid but you could try contacting Garen who owns the website and is very knowledgeable on the subject.

I forgot to say that Garen Ewing is a member of VWF so you might like to PM him in case he hasn't seen your post.

I see that Dull Sing was awarded the Afghanistan 1878-80 medal with no clasp - http://www.arcticmedals.com/catalog/ite ... 599566.htm.

I know that Indian Regiments were often of mixed race and religion but wonder with the name "Sing" whether the 30th Bengal Infantry Punjab would be the natural choice.

MG,

my forte, if I have one, is certainly not British Indian Army. However, a friend over here does have that interest, so I shall PM him to see if he can be of more use than I.

Cheers,
