I don't know much about any of the Victorian era Canadian wars. Are there any military history's out there in the style of knight, snook well you get the idea. Good coverage of weapons, tactics and highly detailed study of the relevant battle with good maps.

There isn't really one big book but your best bet is just checking out your library. They should have some good books there about the Canadian military in the Victorian war era

I just bought this at the Batoche NHS, it is an excellent review of the movements and tactics during the battle, and despite the biased introduction by a descendant of Riel, the Author presents everything in a very objective and scholarly manner. Middleton gets a raw deal by most historians, but really he was inventive and his tactics sound; although he was rather cautious in his command. His enemy was an unknown in numbers, tactics, equipment and even the Battlefield was a mystery. Given he had a force of militia and inexperienced soldiers and not British regulars, he had every right to be. This Books brings that out far better than pretty much any other history textbook. Excellent resource.

For the 1837 rebellions, I recommend "A Particular Duty" by Michael Mann.
