Another uniform question about Indian Mutiny

Postby WillieB » 21 May 2016 23:21

Still painting merrily away! 90+ figures in one go.

Having done al the flesh parts I started to paint the red coatees first.
I have mixed in a few of the Mutineer figures with my Iron Duke ones, and suddenly noticed that at least one of the figures didn't have any lace on the front and no tail to his coatee. Also, the coatee seems to be double-breasted.
Since I can't find any reference to a red double breasted, tail-less coatee and it certainly isn't a shell jacket (braided cuffs and laced collar) I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't supposed to be a member of the rifle companies.
Which would mean I should have painted it dark green.

Can anyone shed some more light on this?
Really would need a good book with plenty of illustrations on the Indian regiments :P

Hi Willie,

Indian regiments did have light infantry companies which wore the double breasted rifle green coatee and trousers.

Thanks Sam!

To confuse the matter even more the AW Miniatures site shows exactly the same jacket.
