Just to kick off for the second time, the first effort went down the spout.
He is recorded on the Indian Mutiny Medal (IMM) roll with the rank of Sergeant in the 2nd Batt. Rifle Brigade. He received the IMM with the clasp for 'Lucknow', meaning that he was a member of the force, led by Sir Colin Campbell, which effected the final recapture of the city of Lucknow for the British in the spring of 1858. He may have been involved in other actions for which clasps were not awarded but I don't have a full record of the battalion's activity during this campaign.
He is the only Winchcomb on the IMM roll for the British Army, though there may have been others, civilians or EIC military personnel, of which I don't have a record. He is not recorded as having been wounded.
