Koulali hospital was about 6 miles North of Scutari main hospital, in an old Turkish cavalry barracks close to the sea shore. It was not established until December 1854, and originally had space for about 750 beds.
However, it didn't really begin to fulfil it's function as an overspill for Scutari until late January 1855. Sadly, despite only having about 300 patients by the end of the month, it's mortality rate was on a par with the main hospital, due mainly to poor and unsanitary conditions.
