Chief Alexis Soyer's Culinary Campaign.

Hello.

Some colourful [Google Books] free reading, that gives an insight into canteen deficiencies on the field, and in the aid centres, during the Crimean Campaigns.

Alexis [a renowned French Chief in London] volunteered to set out to prove a steam cooker was the efficient way to go for feeding the manpower.

Thanks for the link to the previous forum post.

I am new to this site, and I have yet to read through all the Crimean posts, and did not think to do a site search first, before posting.

My link is to the book, that is quoted from in the article, and apparently was one of many published by Soyer.

While rather chatty in nature, it contains some supporting dates and observations that enhance the research I have been doing.

Alan.

PS EDIT Just noticed my late night typo, correct spelling = Soyer's.

This is a fine read. I read it a few years ago, but nearly forgot about this book until I saw the title posted here. Thanks for sharing.

Peachy Carnehan: Not gods - Englishmen. The next best thing.
