Ships & stores lost at sea

Postby A.Roads » 29 Feb 2016 23:29

I'm probably looking for a needle in a haystack, is there a list anywhere of ships lost during the Crimean War & their cargoes?
I'm looking to see if there was a shipment of muskets lost. Heading from stores in Malta or Scutari & being returned to Store in England. These muskets being surplus due to the armament of troops with rifles. This being part of research into the P/1838 Musket.
Any help gratefully appreciated. Adrian

The only event that I am aware of that involved the loss of merchant ships was the 'Great Hurricane' of 1854. The following item on the internet provides a list of ships lost within the text (about half way down the item):
http://www.victorianweb.org/history/crimea/storm.html
This might provide you with at least a starting point for further research.
