Various newspaper articles and his military service records on retirement bring up the following details...
Joind the 71st Highland Light Infantry in Feb 1848 at Edinburgh castle.
Landing in Crimean 4th Feb 1855.
Service at Kertch, Sebastopol and Yenikale.
He retired in 1863 after 22 years as a Sergeant Major with many decorations listed , The French Military War Medal, Her Majesty`s Silver Medal and the Royal Annuity, Crimean Medal and Clasps and a diploma signed by the Grand Chancellor of the Imperial Order of the Legion of Honour and the Turkish War Medal.

We are still looking into his past but are interested to discover anything else about him and his military service and advice where to look?
