sevastopol clasp roll

Postby jrdrury » 16 Nov 2015 21:28

hi all

quick question, if anyone can advise ...

checking the details of my GGGrandfather in the rifle brigade medal rolls and can't see him in the sevastopol roll.

he served in the 2nd battalion

he is shown on the rolls for the alma and inkerman clasp in captain inglis company

he has several entries and regimental numbers in the various muster rolls as he went through the ranks;

3471/3474/3071 james winchcombe / winchcomb/ winchcone
went form private to corp to sergeant during the crimea - was wounded slightly in the attack on the 8.9.55 on the redan

he also gets a write up in the 1896 rifle brigade chronicle around bravery in the trenches before sevastopol when as a corporal he lead an attack on the russian rifle pit.

on his discharge papers it states the 3 clasps for alma inkerman and sevastopol

anything to worry about or could it be an error on the medley roll where he is missed off ...

cheers

james

James nothing to worry about, I've found quite a few army rolls that are less than specific about the award of the Sebastopol clasp. You may already know this but he appears on the casualty roll published in the 25 Sept 1855 edition of the London Gazette.
