Waitangi Day 6th Feb 1840

For all discussions relating to the Maori (New Zealand) Wars of 1845-72.

Waitangi Day 6th Feb 1840

Postby Josh&Historyland » 06 Feb 2014 23:42

Since this important treaty is the backdrop to the wars that followed and indeed is usually cited as the founding date of New Zealand I thought I'd just throw this post out there.

Here's my humble offering from my website.

Here's the official Treaty Ground's website.

Thanks for the post and links, Josh! I did tweet about this one yesterday but have to confess the finer details of it are somewhat lacking in my knowledge. I think New Zealand is an interesting part of the period we cover and I certainly hope to learn more.

I first read about it in Michael Barthorp's excellent "To face the Daring Maori's" on of my favourite old bookshop finds, and I am told the best book about the 1st NZ war.
