Role of the Royal Artillery

Postby Arfer » 16 Oct 2008 10:13

I am trying to research a New Zealand War medal to a member of the Riding Establishment of the Royal Artillery.

The medal is named as follows:

1835 BOMBDR John Donovan RID ESTAB RA

I have found out that a number of the Artillery were mounted on local horses and used as cavalry during the war. I am presuming that Bdr Donovan was sent out to train the horses and men.

Any further information would be gratefully accepted.

Phil the only thing i can add is that the medal should be dated 1864-1866, he served in the late J Bty 4th Brigade before being transfered into the Gunner Riding Establishment(only 2 names on the roll) and took part in the following campaign;

Waikato, Tauranga, Wanganui

Mon General, if by you action the British Army is annihilated, England will never pardon France, and France will not be able to pardon you! Always looking for medals to the Irish Regiments: 18th, 27th, 83rd, 86th, 87th, 88th, 89th,
