65th Muster Books 1846-47

Postby dominion-lad » 13 Apr 2016 05:14

I am searching a 65th soldier who arrived in NZ late 1846. Trying to establish which company he was with, and where in NZ he subsequently served (as companies ended up in various places) Does anybody have access to the films of these rolls? Think I need WO12/7417, 7415 and 7416. Or AJCP numbers 3842. Thanks. I am researching 2096 H Pickering.

If you are in New Zealand or Australia, as you know the AJCP [Australian Joint Copying Project] number, perhaps you can enquire at your library as to whether the AJCP microfilm is available as an Inter Library loan.

Otherwise there are people who will film records at the National Archives Kew. I have not used the following person myself, but I have seen good comments about his work, (on WW2Talk Forum) and the price charged for document copying. http://www.arcre.com/copyservice

Certainly digitalised images of WO 12 Muster Rolls they are not available via the National Archives as these are bound in massive, outsize volumes. Certainly, the only option if you are unable to visit Kew will be to commission someone to photograph the relevant pages. There were usually two sets of rolls per year extending to several large sheets of vellum each

Do I understand that AJCP has recorded all the relevant rolls for regiments serving in the Antipodes?

In 2015 “The Project Partners now wish to digitise this microfilm (an estimated 5.8 million frames) and related paper-based finding aids and make them publicly accessible. The Project Partners assume that Respondents will seek the right to distribute some or all of the Digitised Content commercially and that the Respondents will not seek payment from the Project Partners for the digitization”.
